MIAMI (FL). First National Bank of South Miami (FNBSM) celebrates Twiglet Bank’s 20th Anniversary. To commemorate this milestone FNBSM sponsored a poster contest for the children at David Fairchild Elementary. Seven lucky winners ranging from pre-Kindergarten through 4th Graders received prizes and a field trip to FNBSM where they enjoyed lunch and were given a tour of the Bank. In 1989, Fist National Bank of South Miami pioneered a new project in union with David Fairchild Elementary. Established on school premises, Twiglet Bank was conceived to help children develop an understanding of how to manage their own money. “It is a wonderful opportunity for children to start firm savings habits from a young age,” said Veronica Birch Flores, Executive Vice President. “Also, some of the young people are given the opportunity to gain experience working in our Bank as a teller or one of the other essential Bank positions.” Twiglet is open at the school in an actual train caboose. Twiglet Bank is a wholly owned subsidiary of First National Bank of South Miami; it is a state-chartered bank that is run by and for the children at David Fairchild Elementary. Additionally, all Twiglet account holders are welcome to conduct their business at the main office of First National Bank of South Miami at 5750 Sunset Drive.
